David Hodgson is rapidly establishing himself as an ambitious and unique artist in Toronto’s vibrant jazz scene. His participation in the 2017 National Youth Jazz Combo, the 2016 Berklee Jazz Workshop, and the 2015 and 2016 Conn-Selmer Centre-Stage Jazz Band instilled a deep appreciation of the jazz tradition and a desire to create inspiring new music. He is the recipient of the 2017 Yamaha Performance and Passion Award, the 2017 Fraser MacPherson Jazz Fund, and the 2016 Golden Reed Award. Currently an undergraduate student at the University of Toronto, David studies with John Johnson and Nick Fraser.

David has performed at jazz festivals and venues across Canada, and has had the privilege of studying with Seamus Blake, Kelly Jefferson, Steve Kaldestad, Kirk MacDonald, Terell Stafford, and Terri Lyne Carrington.

Through his music, David captures spontaneity and self-expression. He is consistently inspired and influenced by artists around him, continuous immersion in the jazz tradition, and his passion for art and design.
